We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story...

Four years ago God put it upon my heart to serve Him in the mission field. Ever since then it is almost as though I have been breathing Africa. Every youth convention, school project, roadside billboard and even bible study guide somehow seemed to point me toward Africa and the people there. God placed in my life constant reminders and it was as though I couldn't escape his influence even if I tried. Through these reminders, God gave me a heart and passion for the people there and the unmet needs that they have. Although I didn't know where specifically or how at the time, I knew that God was leading me to Africa and that he would continue to guide me on my path to discovering how I can best serve and honor Him through a long term mission there.

This year I am a high school senior and made arrangements last year to graduate one semester early with the intention of spending my extending break before college on a long term mission. When I originally spoke with my school counselor I was completely unaware where God was going to send me and how he was going to do it. At that time I was really just trusting that God would continue to point me in the right direction and took a blind step of faith. My councilor was a little skeptical, but the plans were set and I now had seven months between my last day of high school and first day of college. Then, this summer the search began. I spent hours scouring the internet and investigating different organizations with service opportunities in Africa. I even employed friends to help me on my search and eventually one came across Adventures In Mission and The Novas Project. He presented the organization to me, I prayed about it, and I eventually made the decision to apply.

I may be young, but I am anxious to be utilized in a way that brings glory to God. I can't wait to be discipled and to serve in Africa. Four years of anticipation have built up into a huge ball of excitement and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me.
